About
Our firm specializes in the appraisal of listed and non-listed historic property and property within walk-able, pedestrian-oriented districts, either designed before the automobile was popularized, or designed for modern Transit Oriented Development (TOD) lifestyles. We travel to urban, suburban, and rural areas which meet the criteria of historic significance, or walk-able pedestrian oriented street-scapes. We also specialize in older property subject to condemnation proceedings for litigation.
Our team is as follows:
Robert C. Voyles, MAI - Owner & Founder
Our company founder, Robert C. Voyles, MAI, is Vice President of his local chapter of the Appraisal Institute, an MAI designated appraiser with the Appraisal Institute, and a teacher of appraisal classes on the appraisal of historic property in urban areas and litigation appraisal classes with the Appraisal Institute. The Appraisal Insittute is the oldest professional Appraisal organization in the United States, and created the profession in 1929 in response to the Great Depression. Less than 15% of licensed appraisers today have achieved a designation with the Appraisal Institute (which requires more than double the education for state licensure), and far fewer become involved in chapter leadership and teaching. The MAI designation, teaching experience, and AI leadership experience markers of Robert's commitment to specialization and excellence in appraisal.
Robert is also a member of the Society of Architectural Historians and the International Right of Way Association in the St. Louis region. These memberships confer on Robert additional expertise in the appraisal of historic properties and properties subject to condemnation proceedings.
Robert owns a listed historic multi-family property in the Delmar Loop, where he tripled the rental rates after purchase and significantly improved the property. Robert is a hobbyist carpenter and does much of the work on his property, while also serving as general contractor and property manager. His hands-on experience in renovating and purchasing historic property lends significant weight to his expertise on the property type and also differentiates our firm.
Technology Support Staff
Robert has created his own appraisal software over nearly a decade, which improves turn times and efficiencies for Greater St. Louis Appraisal. Technology is an emerging part of the appraisal industry, and many companies simply rely on 3rd party technology providers for their appraisal technology. Our software is custom-made for the local geographic areas we serve, as well as for the appraisal of the property type in which we specialize. As technology pushes our industry into more of a "cookie cutter" approach, the hand-crafted software our team uses ensures our methods retain an artisan approach of high quality appraisal work while also benefiting from the modest aid of computer technology.
We retain two full-time technology support staff, one of which has a master's degree in computer science, and the other of which is Robert's father. We are a family business.
